TEXTUAL EDITING: TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY PRACTICE
A series of workshops for doctoral students in literary studies

The Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities and the Universities’ Committee for Scottish Literature would like to announce the third of a series of four workshops designed to provide doctoral students of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature with the knowledge and skills required for the scholarly editing of texts from the period.
Following the first two workshops at Stirling and Edinburgh, the Aberdeen workshop will address the choice of copy-text and how to amend it, drawing on Aberdeen’s extensive experience in editing the works of Walter Scott: the completed Edinburgh Edition of the Waverley Novels, and the newly-commenced Edinburgh Edition of Scott’s Poetry.
Doctoral students of literary studies from any Scottish university who book a place on any workshop will have second-class rail fare from their home university to the venue reimbursed. Lunch is also included. Previous attendance at the Stirling or Edinburgh workshops is not a prerequisite for participating in this one. 3.30–4.15 The Edinburgh Edition of the Waverley Novels. A discussion on the issue of the copy text and how to emend it led by Professor David Hewitt, Co-Director Walter Scott Research Centre and Editor-in-Chief, Edinburgh Edition of the Waverley Novels.
4.15–5.00 The Edinburgh Edition of Walter Scott’s Poetry. A discussion on the issue of the copy text and how to emend it led by Dr Ainsley McIntosh, London City University, Editor of Marmion and Advisory Editor Edinburgh Edition of Walter Scott’s Poetry.
